There’s no better way to start off your Saturday morning than with a 3.1-mile or 6.2-mile run from the 2nd largest, natural body of water in the state to the heart of Lake City, a quaint, little town in the middle of nowhere. Anyone can run the race, whether you’re 7 or 70. Even celebrities, like Forrest Gump and Oscar the Bear, come to run. You may even be able to snag a chance to meet or get a photo with one of these super stars.

10k start lineDirectors of the race, Mandy Caldon, Patrice Palmer, and Phillip Virden, have been so kind as to keep the race going for 34 years, and are already planning far into the future. This fun, challenging, and beautiful course through Lake City’s amazing scenery is sure to appeal to all age groups. This awesome event is raising money for a good cause, ice climbing in Lake City.  You can learn more about 'Lake City Ice Climbs' on facebook or on their website

Documenting Peak Experiences

Meet Kolten Wonnacott!

Kolten is the newest employee for the Lake City/Hinsdale County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.  You'll see Kolten flying around town on his bike, trilby atop his head and attached Press Pass.

After just wrapping up his freshman year, Kolten has placed in multiple Regional Spelling Bees and competed at the state level twice.  But when asked, he'll tell you that science is his favorite subject in school.

"I think the coolest part about the job will be going around and talking to all of the businesses.  I'm excited to tell everyone about Lake City."  The Wonnecatt family owns and operates G&M Cabins in downtown Lake City.  A resident of 6 years, Kolten's favorite activity around Lake City is swimming in the river. Burr!

You can keep up with Kolten and his features here, on the Lake City website blog or check us out on the social media of your choice.
