Lake San Cristobal 5K/10K Race
by Kolten Wonnacott
There’s no better way to start off your Saturday morning than with a 3.1-mile or 6.2-mile run from the 2nd largest, natural body of water in the state to the heart of Lake City, a quaint, little town in the middle of nowhere. Anyone can run the race, whether you’re 7 or 70. Even celebrities, like Forrest Gump and Oscar the Bear, come to run. You may even be able to snag a chance to meet or get a photo with one of these super stars.
Directors of the race, Mandy Caldon, Patrice Palmer, and Phillip Virden, have been so kind as to keep the race going for 34 years, and are already planning far into the future. This fun, challenging, and beautiful course through Lake City’s amazing scenery is sure to appeal to all age groups. This awesome event is raising money for a good cause, ice climbing in Lake City. You can learn more about 'Lake City Ice Climbs' on facebook or on their website.
If you feel like having a good time, and giving to a good cause, then come and race on June 6th.
Registration begins at 7:30 and shuttles will take people to the starting line from 8:15 to 9:15.
(You may also pre-register online.) The race begins at 9:30, and awards will be presented around 11:00. It is sure to be a blast!
