Marriage Licenses in Colorado

Application & Fee

A marriage license can be obtained at the Hinsdale
County Clerk’s Office in the County Courthouse, 317
North Henson Street, Lake City, Co 81235.  Clerk’s
hours are 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday,
except for public holidays.  The license fee is $10.

Both parties must be present to make the application.  
Applicants under the age of 18 must also have their
parents present.  All applicants must provide the names
and addresses of their parents.  Applicants must
provide a photo I.D. and social security numbers.

If either of the parties has been divorced or widowed,
they must provide the location and time of the event.

No blood test is required.  There is no waiting period
once the license is granted.  The marriage license is
valid for 30 days from the time of application.  

Marriage Ceremonies

A marriage may be solemnized by a judge of a court of
record, a public official whose powers include
solemnization of marriages, or in accordance with any
mode of solemnization recognized by any religious
denomination or Indian nation or tribe. Or, the couple
themselves can solemnize their own marriage.

Ceremonies may be performed anywhere within the
State of Colorado.  The certificate must be returned to
the county clerk within 60 days of the ceremony.
