Local Trail & Road Conditions

For up-to-date and further information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 970-944-2527.

Colorado Highway 149 is open year-round and is well-maintained by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Before traveling, please check on current conditions for Highway 149 and all Colorado highways.

Note that for June 2016, there will be construction on Slumgullion Pass.  This will leave only one lane operating and a pilot car to follow.  Delays are estimated between 30 and 45 minutes.  Our recommendation is to plan your trip coming through Gunnison, CO, dropping in to Lake City from the north.  For any questions or specific dates of construction, call the Visitor Center at 970-944-2527.

Road conditions as of 5/19/16 -

--- Cinnamon Pass is open to Animas Forks and Silverton.  You should still expect snowy conditions.

--- CR 20 is open up to Rose's Cabin, a few miles from the top of Engineer Pass.

--- The Blue Mesa cutoff is open, though the washboarding is bad.

--- The Sapinero cutoff is open.

Conditions may change on a daily basis!  Call 970-944-2527 for the most up-to-date information.

4WD roads in our area typically close mid-Ocotber and open back up late May to mid-June.
