Hours: Memorial Day through Labor Day 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday 1 – 4 p.m., Sundays
Established in 1973, the Hinsdale County Historical Society opened the doors to its first museum in 1975. Now permanently housed in the historic Finley Block Building, rotating exhibits are located in the main building, in a separate Transportation Building and Blacksmith Shop, and on museum grounds. New exhibits feature the Corner Saloon (1875), inter-town telephonic concerts (1881), Hinsdale County ranching and branding irons (late 1800s – early 1920s). These will join exhibits featuring Lake City photography (1870s – 1910s), Lake City textiles (1850s – 1920s), the Barlow and Sanderson stage route, area ores and minerals, Alferd Packer, the Lake City jail, the Narrow Gauge Railroad caboose, and Helen’s Garden – a display of flowers and vegetables that might have grown in an 1890s-era Lake City Garden.
